2009 MSSD Taekwondo Sparring Competition
On the 18th of June 2009, a sparring competition was held in the Kelana Jaya Sports Complex (not really sure about the name of the venue). Our school sent 8 BRAVE warriors =P to compete in this event. They were Me, Kok Khen, Aaron, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Beng Yeen, Luqman and our only female participant, Joy Tan. We had to go to the venue on our own =.=' Thanks a lot, school.... Well, we managed to get there on time and gathered as a group to warm up together.
After our warm up, we went to find Master Lee. He handed us a list of our bouts. I was to fight some guy from SMK USJ 13 in the 1st round. On the other hand, Aaron and Jeffrey qualified directly for the Quarter Finals as there were not many people competing in their category(Aaron was in the Middleweight division if I'm not mistaken and Jeffrey was in the HEAVYweight division, that I'm 100% sure) and Kok Khen will start in the Semis.
Beng Yeen was the 1st among us to fight. When we all saw his opponent, we knew it was GAME OVER for him..... His opponent was at least twice his size. Sorry Beng Yeen, just your luck. Anyway, he lost in the opening bout.
I was next on the fighting list. And here's the summary of my fights:
Bout 1 - I was fighting an Indian guy from SMK USJ 13. He was taller than me =.='. Anyway, Master Lee gave me some advice and I was good to go. Each bout was divided into 2 rounds of 1.5 minutes. I was rather nervous because it was my first fight. But I managed to keep myself together. We traded kicks and punches and after 3 minutes the winner was announced. The judges gave me the points I needed to take the match. It was a brilliant feeling to win. Now I'm in the Quarter Finals.
Bout 2 (Q-Finals) - According to the list, I was supposed to fight a guy from SMK USJ 19. But he didn't turn up. So the judges gave me the win. Awesome!! Now I'm only one step away from the Final.
Bout 3 (S-Finals) - This was the most improtant bout so far. If I win this, I qualify for the Finals. The equation is simple: Win and qualify. But it was easier said than done. Once again, my opponent was taller. I lost this bout 1-0 unfortunately . My trainer told me that I should have scored a point with one of my kicks, but it went unnoticed with the judges. Just my luck I guess.
At the end of the day, I still got a bronze medal for my efforts. Not bad for a first timer like me =). Overall, our team of 8 managed to bag 4 medals. 2 bronze (Me and Jeffrey) and 2 silver (Joy and Kok Khen). That concludes my MSSD Taekwondo adventure. Bye for now!
